About the museum
The Zagroda Sołtysów (Sołtys Farmstead) was built in 1861 by the great-grandfather of the last owner, Jakub Sołtys. Successive generations of the family lived here until 1982, when the property was bought by the Muzeum Tatrzańskie (Tatra Museum) to set up an ethnographic exhibition. The farmstead is an example of a modest Spisz farm from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The wooden house and the outbuildings stand under one roof. The complex includes an entrance porch (sień), one room, a storeroom, a woodshed, a sheepfold, a threshing floor (klepisko) and a stable. The room displays Jurgów folk costumes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the exhibition also tells the story of sheep farming and weaving in the village.
The farmstead operates as a branch of the Muzeum Tatrzańskie im. dra Tytusa Chałubińskiego w Zakopanem (Tytus Chałubiński Tatra Museum in Zakopane). In 2020 it was reopened to visitors after renovation.
