About the museum
The Casa do Parlamento – Centro Interpretativo (Parliament House – Interpretation Centre) opened on 25 April 2024 to mark 50 years of democracy in Portugal. It occupies its own building, opposite the steps of the Palácio de São Bento, the seat of the Assembly of the Republic.
The project was commissioned by the Assembly of the Republic and designed by Francisco Providência, with lecturers and researchers from the University of Aveiro. The contents are the responsibility of Parliament and aim to promote literacy about the Portuguese political system.
The exhibition is spread over four floors, devoted to Citizenship, Parliament, Democracy and Memory, and uses multimedia, games and videos. The centre also has a gallery for temporary exhibitions and a programme of educational activities and events.
