About the museum
The Centro de Interpretação e Promoção do Vinho Verde (CIPVV) operates in the Casa Torreada dos Barbosa Aranha, a 17th-century building in the historic centre of Ponte de Lima, classified as a property of public interest and acquired by the municipality when it was in a very poor state. The project is managed jointly by the Municipality of Ponte de Lima and the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region.
The museum programme starts from the uniqueness of the territory's history and of Vinho Verde as the product of its terroir. Among the most distinctive pieces are a phylloxera syringe and a pipe with wooden hoops. In the auditorium, a short film presents the Vinho Verde Region and its nine sub-regions, and the visit ends in the Sala de Provas (Tasting Room).
The building also has areas for temporary exhibitions, a business room and a space supporting the wine-related tourist routes and itineraries. The centre organises guided visits, tastings, workshops and concerts, and in 2018 it received the “Best Of Wine Tourism Award” and the “European IterVitis Awards”.
