About the museum
The Centro de Interpretação do Território (Territory Interpretation Centre) opened to the public on 4 March 2017 in the Parque do Arnado, in the former farm outbuildings of the Casa do Arnado. It resulted from the reformulation of the Museu Rural de Ponte de Lima (Rural Museum of Ponte de Lima), opened on 4 March 2001 in the same park.
The centre was created to respond to the need to inventory the intangible cultural heritage of the municipality, in a region still marked by rural life. The themes of working the land, bread-making, wine production, flax and livestock were gathered over more than a year across the Lima territory. The work includes recording legends, traditions, customs and practices, agricultural activities, traditional games, festivals, fairs and pilgrimages, and crafts.
It is a museum space that is not confined to the building: it invites visitors to explore the municipality's 39 parishes (freguesias) and serves as a gateway to ancestral farming practices, traditions and testimonies of the rural identity of Lima. It is part of the Museus de Ponte de Lima network.
