About the museum
The Fábrica – Centro Ciência Viva de Aveiro opened to the public on 1 July 2004 and is part of the national network of Ciência Viva centres, which promotes scientific and technological culture through experimentation. The centre is linked to the University of Aveiro, which acquired the premises in 1997.
The space occupies the former premises of the Companhia Aveirense de Moagens, an important company in the local industry during the 20th century, and the centre's name comes from there. The building was adapted to host interactive exhibitions, laboratories and workshops.
The offer is organised into several thematic areas of experimentation, including a laboratory with glass walls for physics, chemistry and biology activities, a kitchen converted into a laboratory, robotics workshops and a creative construction space. The centre also runs a regular programme of activities for families, educational programmes for schools, children's academies and science birthday parties.
