About the museum
The Museu de Arte Sacra de Vila Viçosa (Sacred Art Museum of Vila Viçosa) operates in the Church of Santa Cruz, on Rua Florbela Espanca, part of the former convent of Santa Cruz, in the parish of São Bartolomeu. The church and convent complex has been in the process of classification as a Monument of Public Interest.
The museum reopened to the public on 14 March 2022, after a partnership between the Municipality of Vila Viçosa, the Fábrica da Igreja Paroquial de São Bartolomeu (the parish church's fabric committee) and the Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional (Institute for Employment and Vocational Training), through an employment-integration contract.
