Museu do Vinho do Porto

Station of the Porto City Museum in Ribeira, dedicated to Port wine and the Douro, with an admission charge and an exhibition under renovation.

Opening hoursAdmission €4
Limited operations. The long-term exhibition is under renovation; the space operates with a display dedicated to the Douro (“Douro: terra e atmosfera”).

About the museum

The Museu do Vinho do Porto opened in 2004 in the Armazém do Cais Novo, on the banks of the Douro, and is one of the stations of the Porto City Museum (Museu da Cidade do Porto), run by the Municipality. In March 2019 it moved to Rua da Reboleira, in a rehabilitated building in Ribeira, with an exhibition that explained how the trade and production of Port wine led to the creation of municipal controls and inspections.

The space presents itself as an embassy or outpost of the Douro in Porto. The current display, “Douro: terra e atmosfera” (Douro: Land and Atmosphere), looks at the Douro as a river and as a region, and is expected to be reactivated seasonally, with new exhibitions in March and September, in line with the cycles of the vineyard. The space has a sound project by Pedro André.

The museum's long-term exhibition is under renovation, so it is advisable to check with the Porto City Museum before visiting.
