Two log houses (drevenice) in the Čičmany conservation area – Radenov dom and House No. 42 – with exhibitions on the life and folk culture of the village.

About the museum

The village of Čičmany is a conservation area, and the Považské múzeum manages two log houses in it: Radenov dom and House No. 42. The first written mention of the village dates from the second half of the 13th century. Major fires in 1907 and 1921 destroyed the burnt-out log houses, which were therefore rebuilt according to the original architecture.

Radenov dom is the last surviving two-storey house in the village. Its exhibition presents the stages of life, customs, work activities, occupations, livelihoods, the architecture of Čičmany, costumes and textiles.

In House No. 42 there is the permanent exhibition Bývanie spoločníkov (Housing of the Household Members), which depicts the housing of an extended family, typical of Čičmany, up to the beginning of the 20th century. The modern exhibition takes the form of a diorama and gives the impression that life in the house has just stopped.
