About the museum
Slovenská pošta founded the Poštové múzeum (Postal Museum) in Banská Bystrica in 2000. It is a specialised collecting memory institution with nationwide scope, which collects and protects the cultural heritage related to the activity of the post.
The collections contain historic objects from the history of the post and postal services, engraving tools, domestic postage stamps and stamp design. Visitors learn the story of the historical development of the post and postal services, and in the Children's Post (Detská pošta) they can try out working behind a postal window. The museum prepares exhibitions and educational activities for schools, and provides research services on the history of the post, postmarks and stamp design.
