About the museum
The Čipkarska šola Idrija is a centre for preserving, developing and presenting Idrija lace. Bobbin lacemaking, which is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is passed on here to children and young people.
Every year in June the school sets up a new exhibition of works by pupils from the ending school year; the exhibition of lacemaking masterpieces thus remains on view for one year. During the Festival idrijske čipke, held on the third weekend of June every year, visitors can vote for the most beautiful lace.
Visitors are offered a guided tour, a demonstration of lacemaking and the opportunity to try lacemaking themselves. The school also has a shop with products made of Idrija lace and with materials and tools for lacemaking.
