About the museum

The Vojni muzej Idrija is a private collection set up by its owner, who also received Idrija's highest honour, the Mrak Recognition (Mrakovo priznanje), for establishing it. The museum is housed on the ground floor of a former mining warehouse built in 1669, which stands opposite the Antonijev rov on Stari plac in Idrija.

The museum displays objects used by soldiers in the 20th century, from the First World War to the Ten-Day War for Slovenia in 1991. Some exhibits are rare or unique and cannot be seen in other museums. Of particular interest are the personal items of well-known figures from the Second World War, who also left their mark on the history of the Slovene nation. The collection is supplemented by numerous other exhibits, documents and photographs.

Visits are guided on request, in Slovene or Serbo-Croatian.
