About the museum
The Lokarjeva galerija (Lokar Gallery) is the main exhibition space for current visual art in Ajdovščina and an important cultural meeting point of the Vipava Valley. It is intended to present contemporary visual creativity and to connect the local and international art scene. Throughout the year it hosts exhibitions by renowned Slovenian and foreign artists, with particular attention to local creators and young authors. The programme is complemented by expert guided tours, talks with artists, workshops and other cultural events.
A special place in the gallery is held by the Lokarjeva spominska soba (Lokar Memorial Room), dedicated to Dr Danilo Lokar (1892–1989), physician, writer and playwright. The exhibited objects, manuscripts, books and documents give visitors an insight into his life, work and way of thinking.
As part of the project Lokarjeva literarna doživetja (Lokar Literary Experiences) the gallery is to be renovated: a multi-purpose space for events will be set up in the attic, and the memorial room will be transformed into a modern interactive experience.
