About the museum
Hiša Zdravljica stands in the centre of Podnanos by the stone bridge over the stream Pasji rep, where the composer and priest Stanko Premrl was born in 1880. His melody for the seventh stanza of Prešeren's Zdravljica is today the Slovenian anthem. The initiative to present Premrl's legacy goes back several decades; the decisive step was taken by the villagers in 2010.
The abandoned and decaying house was bought and renovated by the Municipality of Vipava. The renovation began in mid-2024 and took place within the cross-border project BeRoots, co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Italy–Slovenia programme. The building has kept its external dimensions, structure, original roof and facades.
The Hiša Zdravljica was solemnly opened on 17 April 2026. As a modern interpretation centre it presents interactively how the musical Zdravljica came about, figures such as Matija Vrtovec and France Prešeren, and the rich cultural heritage of Podnanos and the Vipava Valley. Since August 2026 the house has been run by the Zavod za turizem TRG Vipava.
