About the museum
The Casa do Mel is in Goente, at the geographical centre of the Eume comarca and at one of the entrances to the Fragas do Eume Natural Park. It is the headquarters of a beekeepers' association that aims to provide technical support to beekeepers and to share the world of bees with visitors.
The association's activities include courses and training days, honey extraction and bottling, wax melting and the production of wax foundation sheets, and a laboratory service for honey quality control. It also runs the house museum, with permanent exhibitions and self-guided or guided visits, and organises beeswax workshops, honey tastings and sampling sessions. Honey and other hive products such as pollen, royal jelly, wax and cosmetics are sold there.
