About the museum
The Aula Museo Paco Díez grew out of more than thirty years of work by the musician Paco Díez in promoting traditional music. In Mucientes it houses a wide collection of folk instruments from Spain and Portugal.
The instruments are arranged according to how the sound is produced, in four families: idiophones, chordophones, aerophones and membranophones. The collection also includes sections on bagpipes with leather bags (gaitas de odre) and on work songs.
The room aims to recover and keep alive traditional instruments that are used less and less, to spread the musical and oral tradition, to encourage meetings between traditional musicians, to foster learning how instruments are made and to bring traditional dances to all kinds of audiences. As well as visits, it runs educational concerts and traditional music performances.
