About the museum
The Aula Taller-Museo de las Matemáticas π-ensa opened its doors in October 2014 at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. It was created by the educational innovation group “Pensamiento Matemático” with the aim of turning the space into a cultural centre for the educational community and the general public, and it presents itself as the “Museo de la Lógica y el Ingenio” (Museum of Logic and Ingenuity).
Its proposal is that visitors come not to study mathematics but to play and test their skills with puzzles. Each year it organises an exhibition of logic games and a travelling thematic exhibition on a part of mathematics or its applications, which is renewed every nine or ten months. Workshops, lectures and other activities are scheduled around them, with particular attention to children.
The museum also offers ongoing workshops on mathematical and computing content for pupils in primary, secondary and upper secondary education, as well as a travelling exhibition of logic games that can be taken to schools. It opens to the general public only on a few Saturdays a year and is also a practice centre for several educational institutions in the Community of Madrid.
