About the museum

The Casa Museo Manuel de Falla occupies a carmen in the Antequeruela Alta, in the upper part of the Realejo quarter and very close to the Alhambra. The composer from Cádiz settled here in early 1922 with his sister María del Carmen and lived in the house until his departure into exile in Argentina in 1939. In this setting he composed much of his work from the Granada period and received visits from friends such as Federico García Lorca, Juan Ramón Jiménez and Andrés Segovia.

The Granada city council opened the house as a museum in 1965 and rearranged the furniture and personal belongings following the drawings made in 1941 by Hermenegildo Lanz, so that the house keeps the appearance it had when Falla left it. The rooms are simple and reflect everyday life in a Granada house of the early 20th century; next to it are the garden and, adjoining, the Auditorio Manuel de Falla, which opened in 1978.

A March 2023 order of the Junta de Andalucía authorised the creation of the house as a museum under municipal ownership and entered it in the Register of Museums of Andalusia. After renovation work to protect the building from damp and temperature changes, the museum reopened to the public in February 2026, in the year of the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.
