About the museum
Casa Andalusí is on Calle Judíos, in the heart of the Judería of Córdoba and next to the synagogue, and opened to the public in 1997. The building, an almost ruined house, was restored by the architect Arturo Ramírez Laguna with the intention of returning its character as a habitable house and showing the way of life of Hispano-Muslim society. It is presented under the title “Córdoba Siglo XII” and recreates the atmosphere of the Caliphal period with music, scents, water and decoration.
The visit goes through the vestibule, the colonnaded courtyard with a fountain and well, and the rooms around it. The house leans against the western stretch of the Medina wall and preserves the inner walkway (adarve) that separated the houses of Calle Judíos from the wall. Its rooms house the Museo del Papel (Paper Museum), which explains how paper was made in Caliphal Córdoba, and a collection of gold, silver and bronze coins from the whole Muslim period in al-Andalus.
Under the house runs one of the underground galleries typical of the Judería. From it, a room opens with a late Roman or Byzantine mosaic of geometric decoration and Visigothic bricks from the 6th and 7th centuries.
