About the museum
The Casa-Museo Fuente del Rey, in the Madrid district of Aravaca, belongs to the Fundación Fran Daurel, a private non-profit institution founded in 1995 by the businessman Francisco Daurella to promote and disseminate art. The foundation, formerly known in Madrid as Fundación AMYC, also has premises in Barcelona and in Ventalló (Girona).
The collection comes from the private holdings of the collector and patron Francisco Daurella and is shown in what was his house. The building, of more than 3,000 m², and its garden were renovated to house the works, and the centre presents itself as the first museum in the capital devoted exclusively to Catalan art.
More than 250 pieces are exhibited, among them paintings (198), sculptures (37) and drawings (27), created from the mid-19th century to the early 21st century. The artists represented include Sorolla, Mariano Fortuny, Nonell, Rusiñol, Ramón Casas, Gargallo, Joseph Llimona, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Tàpies, Anglada Camarasa and Torres García.
The foundation uses its exhibition spaces to show the permanent holdings and to hold temporary exhibitions and other cultural activities. Visits take place in small groups, with a guide of their own or one provided by the foundation.
