About the museum
The Museo Casa de Salaguti is on the outskirts of Sasamón (Burgos) and is the work of the sculptor and painter Carlos Salazar Gutiérrez, known as Salaguti, who was born in this town on 12 July 1944. A self-taught artist, he returned to his village after a brief attempt at training in Madrid and developed a personal style outside academic conventions.
From about 1970 the artist built a studio house on family land, which became a large habitable sculpture and a museum open to the public. The building, with curved and irregular forms, rises on a hill with views of the Castilian plateau and its sunsets; a large relief in the form of a face stands out on the façade. Inside, a broad representation of the artist's work is displayed, made up mainly of wood carvings and paintings.
