About the museum

The house museum occupies the home in which the painter Salvador Sabaté Miret lived in Fraga until his death. Born in Maials (Lleida) in 1921 and died in Fraga in 1984, he came from a family of craftsmen and was drawn to painting from an early age. Although he received minimal training in Barcelona and Madrid, he always considered himself self-taught.

His family installed the artist’s works on the same walls where he lived and opened the museum to the public in 2000. It is privately owned and is run by Divina Sabaté Corbella, who also exhibits her own work. The centre’s mission is to gather and show the work of Salvador Sabaté and to promote knowledge of contemporary art.

The collection brings together paintings, drawings and sculptures: portraits, landscapes, urban views and works of a dreamlike character. His painting moved from realism towards geometric and symbolic features and, in recent years, towards Impressionist techniques. He exhibited in Aragon, Catalonia and Madrid, and his works are held in public and private collections in Europe and America.
