About the museum
In 1930 Salvador Dalí settled in a small fishermen's hut in Portlligat, a cove near Cadaqués that attracted him for its landscape, its light and its isolation. For around forty years he kept extending the house with new rooms as his needs changed, until it formed a complex that he himself described as a structure in growth.
The house was his permanent home and usual workplace until 1982, when, after Gala's death, he moved to the Castle of Púbol. Today it is run by the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, which opened it to the public as a museum and includes it in the Triángulo Daliniano, together with the Teatro-Museo in Figueres and the Castillo Gala Dalí in Púbol.
The route is organised in three areas: the Dalís' private life (rooms 1 to 5 and 8 to 13), the studio (rooms 6 and 7), with numerous objects related to his work, and the outdoor spaces, namely the olive grove and the courtyards (rooms 14 to 20), designed for social life and ephemeral creation. Visits are made in small groups with advance booking.
