About the museum

The Casa del Parque de Las Médulas, in Carucedo (El Bierzo, León), is part of the network of Casas del Parque of the Castilla y León natural areas network and is run by the Fundación Patrimonio Natural. It offers an overview of the Las Médulas Natural Monument, information for planning a visit and the areas of greatest interest.

The permanent exhibition's central theme is human influence on the shaping of landscapes, with Roman gold mining as the main example and the Lake of Carucedo as a backdrop. An entrance ramp shows, with images and sounds, how the mountain was transformed in Roman times.

The route continues with a panel comparing the pace of natural and human change in the landscape, a space called “La cueva” (The Cave) with interactives and videos, an area on traditional crafts (fishing, farming, vine growing and chestnut groves) with hands-on elements, and an area on sustainability and protection networks, with games and travelling exhibitions.
