About the museum

The Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània occupies the former Royal Monastery of Our Lady of Carmen, whose origins date back to 1281 and which gave its name to the Carmen district. Over the centuries parts in different styles were added, so that Arab remains, Gothic and Renaissance elements now coexist. The complex is declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument.

The building has two cloisters: a Gothic one, which hosts summer film cycles and concerts, and a Renaissance one with a garden, a quiet place for a stroll or a rest. It is now the seat of a contemporary culture centre that depends on the Consorci de Museus de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Its programme is based on temporary exhibitions of visual arts, as well as performing arts, film, music, talks and educational proposals, many of them free of charge. The centre also has the Espai de Telles, a permanent space designed so that children aged 0 to 3 can explore shapes and textures through play.
