About the museum
Dinosfera is the exhibition space in Coll de Nargó within the Dinosaures dels Pirineus project, an outreach initiative on the last dinosaurs of Europe based on scientific research carried out in Catalonia. Its central theme is what is known about the reproduction of these animals through their eggs, drawing on the major palaeontological sites in the municipality.
The exhibition, which complements the one at the Museu de la Conca Dellà in Isona, is organised into nine areas. The first two reconstruct the landscape and present the main sites in the area; the third focuses on the amniote egg and how it differs from other types of egg; the fourth deals with dinosaur eggs in the world and in the Catalan Pyrenees.
The most outstanding piece is the largest dinosaur nest in Europe, found in Coll de Nargó. The fifth area explains its discovery, excavation, restoration and study, and includes an interactive game that lets visitors simulate the process of excavating and preparing the fossil. Areas 6 and 7 show current and future lines of research, so that the museum can be updated with new discoveries.
The last area is devoted to the mammals that dominated after the extinction of the dinosaurs, some 66 million years ago, with Miocene remains recovered by Dr Duró near La Seu d’Urgell and donated by his family. Throughout the route, audiovisuals, interactive games, real fossils, replicas and reconstructions are combined.
