About the museum

The Museu Moto Bassella grew out of the work of Mario Soler (1907–1991), a passionate mechanic who, from his workshop in the small Lleida town of Bassella, rescued a large number of old motorcycles from oblivion until he became a renowned restorer and one of the country's first collectors.

The Soler family set up the Fundación Privada Museu Moto Mario Soler in 2010, a non-profit foundation that carries on his legacy and manages a collection of more than 300 motorcycles. The museum opened in 2002 beside the C-14 road, between Ponts and Oliana, in a mountain setting in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees.

The route covers around 1,000 m² across two floors, with audiovisuals and interactive elements. The first floor follows the evolution of the motorcycle from 1902 to the present, with the origins of the museum, the pioneering brands, the consolidation of the big factories and the Spanish post-war period. Level -1 is devoted to competition, technology, cinema and military models, and from it visitors can see Soler's original workshop, where he restored his motorbikes, and the museum's current workshop. The foundation also organises temporary exhibitions, activities and motorcycle routes.

  • Competition area with trials, enduro, motocross, raids and lesser-known disciplines
