About the museum

The centre occupies the birthplace of the writer Armando Palacio Valdés (Entralgo, 1853 – Madrid, 1938), an 18th-century two-storey rural manor house that has been extended several times. The building has three sections, with the central one projecting slightly, and galleries on the first floor; the restored adjoining courtyard forms part of the route.

The central theme is “La aldea perdida” (1903), the author's most popular novel, set in Entralgo at the end of the 19th century, when the valley's first coal mines were beginning to be worked. On the ground floor there is a reception, a multi-purpose room, a documentation room and a workshop room for craftspeople. From the reception, information is given on hiking routes linked to the novel, such as the “La aldea perdida” route between Entralgo and Villoria.

The permanent exhibition occupies the upper floor, with five rooms: the author's life, his literary work, the rural world of Nolo and Demetria, the mining of Plutón and Joyana, and the evolution of the territory since the 19th century. On 18 March 2006 the writer's family donated five original manuscripts to the centre: “La fe”, “Los cármenes de Granada”, “Testamento literario”, “La hija de Natalia” and “La aldea perdida”.
