About the museum
Algorri is the interpretation centre for the natural resources of Zumaia. Its exhibition explains the ecosystems of the municipality: the mouth of the Urola, the island of Bedua and its salt marshes, the Santiago dunes, the holm oak woodland of San Miguel, the tidal platform between Zumaia and Deba, a protected biotope, and the flysch cliffs, which are of internationally recognised geological value.
The building has two floors. On the lower floor there is an auditorium for screenings and talks, a documentation room and classrooms for school workshops; on the first floor is the main exhibition hall, with audiovisual material. The centre also has a laboratory and a library, and runs educational programmes for primary, secondary and upper secondary pupils, with visits, guided walks, workshops and boat trips.
The centre remains closed while the project for a new museum is carried out. During this time the organisation has offered guided tours for schoolchildren at the Palacio Ubillos and has maintained its educational activities. Algorri is part of the visitor centre offer of the Basque Coast Geopark, and the Zumaia audio-guide app includes a guide dedicated to Algorri, alongside those for the flysch and the Urola estuary.
