About the museum
The Kantauri Ondare Museoa is a small museum in Zumaia devoted to nautical heritage and shipbuilding. It was presented in 2021 as “Kantauri Itsas Ondarea”, a new museum gathering pieces recovered from old ships, the fruit of years of collecting work.
The collection includes ship’s compasses more than a hundred years old, anchors, rudders and ship telegraphs. According to the town’s tourism website, the museum bears witness to the importance that industry has had in Zumaia, especially the manufacture of marine engines.
The museum is on the ground floor of a building on Plaza Kantauri, in the centre of the town.
