Centro de Interpretación de la Fauna Glacial
Centre in the Cuevona de Avín with life-size replicas of Pleistocene animals and a guided tour of about 50 minutes; closed until Easter 2027.

About the museum
The interpretation centre is in Avín (Onís), inside the Cuevona, a large natural cave crossed by a small stream. The cave was occupied in the Palaeolithic and, in the 18th and 19th centuries, served as a post-house stop with an inn and a forge. The forge and the cave were restored to house the centre, which opened in 2010.
The guided tour covers about 500 metres inside the cave and shows life-size reconstructions of extinct Pleistocene species known from the fossil record of the area, such as the mammoth, giant deer, woolly rhinoceros and sabre-toothed tiger. A replica of the remains of a rhinoceros calf found in the nearby Pozu de la Peruyal cave is also on display.
Tours depart every hour on the hour and last about 50 minutes. The centre’s website states that it remains closed until Easter 2027.
