About the museum
The interpretation centre is in the former mansion house (casa palacio) of the Sodupe family, in Navaridas (Rioja Alavesa), and explains how the inhabitants of the Alto de Castejón settlement lived. It is an archaeological site discovered in 2014, declared a Cultural Asset with the category of Monumental Complex by the Basque Government; it covers about 16 hectares on the hill and its immediate surroundings.
The exhibition is organised into eight sections, including those on the settlement, the territory, agriculture and livestock, hunting, water, crafts and defences, with particular attention to the period between the 9th and 5th centuries BC. It also reviews more than 5,000 years of the area's history, from the Neolithic to the end of the Middle Ages.
The centre is complemented by a guided visit to the site itself, which requires prior booking, and by archaeology workshops for schoolchildren on life in the Iron Age.
