About the museum
The Centro de Interpretación del Hórreo in Güeñu/Bueño (Ribera de Arriba) presents itself as the first museum dedicated to this typical Asturian building. Its modern building combines building types, decorative styles and technical aspects with up-to-date media that make them easy to understand.
The exhibition explains the different types of hórreo, above all the Asturian ones, their varied decoration and the parts of the structure and their function, from the pegollos (stone supports) to the cantapaxarinos (stone discs against rodents). It uses immersive projections, interactive screens and documentaries. The main attraction for families is a workshop in which visitors assemble a large hórreo at a scale of 1:3.
The centre complements the signposted route past the 47 hórreos and paneras (granaries) of Güeñu/Bueño. Next to the building stands a carved and painted panera from 1856, in the “Carreño” style, surrounded by benches forming a small public park.
