About the museum
The Museum Cemento Rezola was created in 2000 to mark the 150th anniversary of the Cementos Rezola factory, based on a design by the architect Luis Peña Ganchegui. It is in the Añorga district of San Sebastián, about three kilometres from the city centre, opposite the cement plant.
It occupies the former school that the factory built in 1948 for the children of its employees. When it fell out of use in 1997, the company commissioned the Estudio Peña Ganchegui to refurbish it for a new use as a museum, with the same mission: to spread knowledge and culture among the local people.
The permanent exhibition explores the world of cement: what it is, how important it is in society and its commitments to sustainability, with prototypes and experimental modules on innovation, and the history of Cementos Rezola, from its origins as a family business to its integration into an international group, also told by the people of the Añorga district. Each year the museum stages temporary exhibitions on architecture, engineering, the environment, art and new materials.
