About the museum
The Teide Legend Visitor Centre is located at the base station of the Teide cable car, in Teide National Park, at 2,536 m altitude. It is run by Volcano Teide, the cable car company, and was created to offer an activity also on days when the cable car is not operating. The permanent exhibition was presented at the end of November 2023.
The exhibition, titled “Ciencia y leyenda”, sets the Guanche legend of Guayota, Achamán and Magec against the scientific explanation of the eruption of Teide that took place about a thousand years ago. The route is set up as a volcanic tube and includes panels on the use the Guanches made of Teide, a replica of a Guanche mummy, an animated film about the legend and a video about the eruption on La Palma. The Museo de Naturaleza y Arqueología (MUNA) and the Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias (Involcan) collaborated on the content. At the end there is an official shop and a café-restaurant with views of the park.
