About the museum
The Centro de Arte Efímero Alfombras de La Orotava occupies the Casa Ximénez Franchy (or Jiménez Franchy), a mansion on Calle San Francisco that the town council dates to 1642. It permanently displays the ephemeral art that the town's carpet makers create every year for Corpus Christi, a tradition more than 160 years old.
Visitors find sketches of the first carpets, historical documents and the moulds and design tools used to create them. The museum presents itself as a space in continuous evolution that gathers the scents and traditions of the town.
