About the museum
The Centro Pérez Siquier is dedicated to the photographer Carlos Pérez Siquier (Almería, 1930), a pioneer of the photographic avant-garde in Spain and winner of the Premio Nacional de Fotografía in 2003. In September 2016 the photographer transferred his entire photographic archive and its full management to the Fundación de Arte Ibáñez Cosentino under a loan agreement (contrato de comodato).
Shortly afterwards, work began on a new building of around 2,500 m², next to the Museo Ibáñez in Olula del Río. The centre opened in September 2017 with a twofold purpose: to preserve, digitise and manage the archive and, at the same time, to show the photographer’s work in a permanent museum of eight rooms.
The archive brings together all of the photographer’s negatives and slides, as well as documents, posters, catalogues, books, awards and decorations, and the cameras he used throughout his career. The exhibition covers more than sixty years of work and brings together series such as La Chanca, Almería, Retratos, La Playa, Color del Sur, Informalismos, El Viaje and La Maestranza. The centre also responds to enquiries from researchers, publishes books and produces travelling exhibitions.
