About the museum
The Museo Casa Ibáñez was created between 1996 and 2004 by the painter Andrés García Ibáñez (Olula del Río, 1971). It was officially inaugurated on 24 November 2004 and opened to the public on 4 March 2005. Since then it has been the most significant cultural facility in the Almanzora Valley. It is run by the Fundación de Arte Ibáñez Cosentino, created in June 2005, which was joined by the company Cosentino in 2014.
The collection comprises more than 1,200 inventoried works, more than 95% of them donated by the artist himself, who thus brought together his private collection: his own work and that of other artists. It focuses on modern and contemporary Spanish art, from Goya to the present day, with particular attention to the figurative tradition. Of this total, 447 works are displayed in the fourteen rooms of the permanent exhibition and in the outdoor spaces. The rest, mainly photographs, is kept in storerooms.
Alongside Ibáñez's painting, works by Goya, Sorolla, the Madrazo family, Benlliure, Zuloaga, Benjamín Palencia, Antonio López and many others are displayed, together with the most significant 20th-century artists from Almería. The museum has a sister-museum agreement with the Museo Ibáñez in Melilla and, since 2015, the foundation has also managed the Museo de Arte Doña Pakyta in Almería.
