About the museum
The Colección Arqueológica Municipal de Aroche was set up in 1967 to gather and protect the finds from the Roman city of Arucci-Turóbriga and from the more than one hundred archaeological sites documented in the municipal area. For decades it was housed in the Convento de la Cilla, a 17th-century building from the time the Hieronymites settled in Aroche.
In summer 2024 a new venue opened on the Aracena road, closer to the Roman site of Arucci-Turóbriga, the only one of its kind that can be visited in the province of Huelva. The new space is fully equipped and allows the collection to be displayed more fully.
The collection includes objects from everyday Roman life, an epigraphic collection with capitals, cornices and lead pipes, and the so-called tesorillo de Arucci, a hoard of 376 silver denarii from the 1st century AD representing eight emperors and several empresses. Polished axes from the Chalcolithic, materials from the Caliphal-period site of La Ladrillera, and weapons and projectiles from the modern period are also on display.
