Colección de Títeres Francisco Peralta

Museum at the Puerta de Santiago in the Segovia city walls, with 38 puppets by the master Francisco Peralta and costumes by Matilde del Amo.

Opening hoursAdmission €3

About the museum

The collection gathers the puppets that the master puppeteer Francisco Peralta has donated to the city of Segovia. Peralta is considered one of the best puppeteers in Spain and received the Silver Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts in 1990. The museum holds 38 figures, created between the fifties and the eighties, representing characters from popular ballads (romancero), classical literature, children's fiction and musical works by established authors, such as El retablo de maese Pedro by Cervantes.

The pieces show different manipulation systems, such as strings, gears and joints, mechanisms, rods, handles and stands. The costumes were designed and made by Matilde del Amo, Peralta's wife and a member of his company from the beginning.

The collection is displayed at the Puerta de Santiago, one of the surviving gates of the Segovia city walls, restored to house the figures. Admission includes a visit to the interior of the gate and an audio guide.
