About the museum

The Ecomuseo de Cabuérniga, also known as the Museo José María de Cos, is housed in one of the Casonas del Sindicato, in Valle, the capital of the municipality. It is a pair of joined 18th-century Baroque mountain mansions (casonas): one was converted to house the museum, while the other keeps its traditional appearance unchanged, with ashlar façades, round arches and a solana (sun-facing gallery).

The museum opened in 2008 and recreates the farming, forestry and livestock activity of the area, as well as the heritage, customs and geography of the municipality. The rooms are spread over two floors, with three rooms on each, and combine panels, display cases and audiovisuals.

Among the exhibits are farm tools, household utensils for making typical products and livestock equipment. The route makes it possible to imagine what everyday life in the valley was like.
