About the museum
The Museo del Traje Regional in Cabezón de la Sal occupies the first floor of a building it shares with the Museo del Arte Textil, which is on the ground floor. It is about a ten-minute walk from the town centre, along the road towards Reinosa.
The visit is guided and takes in the regions of Cantabria (Liébana, Campoo, Cabuérniga, Trasmiera, the Costa and the Valles Pasiegos) through around thirty hand-made costumes. They reproduce the dress of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and each one reflects the area, trade or social class of those who wore it.
The museum also includes a small display of folk musical instruments, such as tambourines (panderetas), bagpipe (gaita), rattle (carraca), maza and castanets (castañuelas), which evokes the folklore and rural life of former times. The same guided route also gives access to the Museo del Arte Textil, which presents the full textile manufacturing process with real machinery.
