About the museum
The San Marcos fort was built in 1888 on Mount Bizarain, at a height of about 260 m, and served the army until 1970. Today it is a leisure and cultural venue and the main viewpoint of the Oarsoaldea area, with views over the bays of La Concha, Pasaia and Txingudi. It lies less than 10 km from San Sebastián.
The visit allows you to explore spaces previously closed to the public and a museum with replicas of cannons and howitzers, soldiers and other elements of military activity. One room is dedicated to the Aizpitarte caves and to recent Palaeolithic finds, with information and a children's area. At the entrance there is a tourist information point.
Near the fort are the Txoritokieta fort, megalithic monuments, signposted trails and a picnic area. The fort opens for about six months a year, from Holy Week onwards.
