About the museum
The exhibition brings together a collection of about 7,000 real butterfly specimens from around the world, built up over his lifetime by Manuel Aguirresarobe at his home on Calle Larretxipi in Irun. He captured the Spanish butterflies himself; those from the rest of the world are the result of exchanges with enthusiasts and institutions in other countries.
Irun town council acquired the entire collection from its creator and owner in 2006. The visit is complemented by a screening of a documentary about the butterfly's life cycle.
