About the museum
The museum collection came about through the wish of the priest Mosén Cosme Bauçà (1871–1959), who wanted to turn his family home, called Es Molí d'en Bo, into a museum and library devoted to the history and culture of Felanitx and Mallorca. In the year of his death he bequeathed the house and much of his property (artworks, books and manuscripts) to the people of Felanitx so that his project could come true.
The main collection is ethnographic, with kitchen utensils, farm implements and tools and instruments from various trades. There is also a small numismatic collection and a prehistory section with the holdings of Miquel Bordoy and Andreu Vidal. The display is completed by a set of curiosities from around the world, mostly ivory, ranging from African sculptures to figures of Hindu gods, Japanese netsuke and figures from the Mallorcan nativity scene.
The library holds manuscripts and books on Felanitx and Mallorca, with some 5,500 works catalogued, and allows consultation of local press collections and newspapers from off the island.
