About the museum

The Casa Blai Bonet. Centre de poesia is a cultural facility of the Consell de Mallorca, created and run by the Fundació Mallorca Literària in the former house of the poet and writer Blai Bonet (Santanyí, 1926–1997). Conceived as the house of poetry in Mallorca, it is devoted to poetry, both spoken and written, and to its dialogue with other art forms. The house, on carrer de Palma 74, is part of a group of terraced houses built by the poet's grandfather. Bonet grew up there, recovered from an illness by reading and writing, and returned in 1968 to live there until 1988, the year of his mother's death. It was a place of literary gatherings and a destination for visiting writers and artists.

After renovation and extension between 2019 and 2024, to a design by the architect Biel Arbona Ginard, the centre opened in 2024. The project added a new building in the courtyard, with an exit to carrer de Campos, for offices, an archive, a residence and a library.

The exhibition, titled “Can Blai”, is organised into five areas: his life and work, with a chronology and the titles of his books; the shared living room, with the furniture recreated and works by artist friends such as Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies or Miquel Barceló; the poet's bedroom; “Cosmoblai”, a route through the themes of his world; and display cases with documents from the archive. The centre also holds a collection of contemporary poetry with around a thousand reference works, which can be consulted by appointment.
