About the museum

Fundació Cuixart is a private non-profit foundation, created in 1998 by the painter Modest Cuixart i Tàpies himself, with an initial endowment made up mainly of his personal collection. It opened to the public the same year with the aim of making his work known and protecting it, and it collaborates with the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya and Palafrugell City Council.

The foundation preserves the modernista house and the studio where Cuixart lived and worked from the 1970s. The studio, called Taller Victoria, was designed in 1984 by his son, the architect Marc Cuixart. Cuixart made some 4,000 works between 1941 and 2007, and the foundation exhibits a selection, especially from his formalist period in Paris and from the final part of his career.

The holdings include paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphic material and personal documents, as well as an archive of documents and audiovisual materials on the life and work of the artist, which is being digitised. The foundation is working to turn the painter's studio into a museum space with a permanent exhibition.

The foundation currently organises exhibitions of 20th- and 21st-century art, artist residencies, educational programmes and public activities at Espai Cuixart. The centenary of the artist's birth is being commemorated in 2026.
