About the museum
The Palau Solterra is a 15th-century civil palace that was the historic residence of the counts of Torroella de Montgrí. Today it houses the Museum of Contemporary Photography, national and international, of the Fundació Vila Casas, located in the centre of this town in the Empordà.
The museum opened in 2000 and currently displays some two hundred contemporary photographs by artists from various parts of the world, which form its permanent collection. In addition, the palace hosts temporary exhibitions and a cycle of lectures on history and the humanities.
The Palau Solterra is part of the network of spaces of the Fundació Vila Casas, together with Can Framis and Espais Volart in Barcelona and Can Mario, the contemporary sculpture museum in Palafrugell.
