About the museum
The Museo de San Antolín is located in the church of the same name, in Tordesillas, and has been a museum since 1969. The church has a single nave divided into bays. Its oldest part is the Alderete chapel, whose construction began in the early 16th century; the rest of the church was built between the 16th and 17th centuries, in stone and brick.
The museum brings together the finest pieces from the churches of the town. Among them stand out a recumbent Christ from the school of Gregorio Fernández, an Immaculate Conception by Pedro de Mena, an altarpiece with sculptures by Juan de Juni and the alabaster tomb that Gaspar de Tordesillas made in 1550.
The church itself also preserves a 17th-century high altarpiece with paintings by Felipe de Mena, and paintings by the Master of Portillo on the altarpiece of the Acevedo chapel. Together, the ensemble allows visitors to see in one space both the church and a selection of the town's religious artistic heritage.
