About the museum
The museum is in the Casas del Tratado in Tordesillas, two joined palaces, one from the 15th century and one from the 17th, both protected as monuments. In the older one, the Treaty of Tordesillas was signed in June 1494, dividing the newly explored lands between the crowns of Castile and Portugal. The building also houses a cultural centre, a temporary exhibition room, the municipal library and the tourist office.
The exhibition reflects the historical, political, geographical and social aspects of the period. It is organised into thematic spaces — the world before the Treaty, the world of the Treaty and the world after the Treaty — with maps, books and navigation instruments, audiovisuals and interactive information points in several languages. In the courtyard there is a free exhibition of scale models of monuments of Castile and León, open with the same hours as the museum and the tourist office.
The visit includes an audio guide: free via a QR code on your own phone, or for €1 with a device.
