Palacio Real Testamentario de Isabel la Católica

Remains of the palace in Medina del Campo where Isabel la Católica made her will and died in 1504, now an interpretation centre about the queen.

Opening hoursAdmission €3.50

About the museum

Only slight traces of the original construction survive from the former Royal Palace of Medina del Campo. Through its rooms passed all the monarchs who reigned in Castile between the 14th and 16th centuries. It is the place where Isabel la Católica dictated her will and her codicil, and where she died on 26 November 1504.

The building now houses the Centro de Interpretación de la Reina Isabel I de Castilla (Interpretation Centre of Queen Isabel I of Castile). The route shows her life and the events that laid the foundations of the modern state, up to the signing of her will. A replica of the will and the codicil is on display, together with an interactive display explaining their contents.

In 2007 an interactive room dedicated to Columbus's third voyage to America was added. Its preparations were partly carried out in this palace together with the Catholic Monarchs. The visit lasts about an hour.
